After stepping away from pottery and ceramics for more than ten years, I felt the need to reconnect with the material. 1 to 100 grew out of this desire: to set myself a simple yet demanding framework through which I could gradually reclaim a practice I had missed.

The project thus became an exercise, a field for experimentation, and a way of rediscovering, piece by piece, the pleasure of making.

This series begins with a simple protocol: to repeat the same form over the course of one year and observe what time, material and repetition produce. While having fun. ;)

One hundred pieces. One hundred moments. One hundred traces of a dialogue between a constructed form, a gesture and the material.

Each volume is made according to a defined system: assembled slabs, repeated gestures and a shared set of rules. Within this framework, variations inevitably emerge: tension in the clay, a mark left by the hand, a trace of oxide, a change in texture or an unpredictable reaction during firing.

These differences are part of the observation. They bear witness to a particular moment in the unfolding of the protocol.

Each piece can therefore record something that might otherwise remain difficult to perceive: the evolution of a gesture, the rhythm of the work, moments of hesitation, technical decisions, and the encounter between intention and the resistance of the material.

Over the course of the year, some variables will remain constant, while others will be modified or abandoned according to the results observed. The aim is not to eliminate accidents, but to gradually understand what comes from the gesture, the material, the firing process or the unexpected.

1 to 100 is therefore not an attempt to produce one hundred identical objects. It is the observation of a year spent working with material, through the repetition of a framework stable enough to allow differences to emerge.

Based in Liège, Belgium, my work revolves around pottery, ceramics and the exploration of material.

1 to 100 is a personal, non-commercial art project. The pieces created within this framework are not intended for sale. They represent stages of an ongoing investigation and are presented progressively, together with their developments, successes, accidents and uncertainties.

This website accompanies the project as an open archive of the process: documenting the protocol as it unfolds, rather than presenting only its final outcome.
